ACT Athletes set to wear the green and gold at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup
Hockey ACT would like to wish our ACT athletes and the entire Men’s and Women’s Australian teams the best of luck at the upcoming FIH Indoor World Cup. ACT is well represented in both teams with 8 players set to wear the Australian uniform.
In the Women’s team, Kizziah Plumb and Peta Sutherland will both be on debut for the Australian Indoor team while Shelley Watson will be competing at her second World Cup after being a part of the 2011 team as a youngster. Plumb and Watson both hail from Crookwell, NSW which seems to have a remarkable ability for producing Australian Hockey players. Sutherland is a Canberra local and at 25 she is excited and ready to put on the green and gold.
The Men’s team is powered by ACT athletes with 5 players selected in the final team. Malcolm Beer, Garry Backhus and Seyi Onitiri will all be at their first World Cup, while Paul Mackinnon will be competing at his second after being a part of the 2011 team that travelled to Poznan, Poland. For Matthew Hotchkis who will Captain the Australia team, this will be his third appearance at the World Cup. Hockey ACT board member Brent Deans will also be travelling with the Men’s team as the team Manager.
Congratulation and best of luck to both teams!
